Do Ghillie Suits Work?
During some of the missions that Special operations soldiers undertake, it is necessary for them to be almost completely undetectable. Camouflaged uniforms and paint are not enough; the soldier must be able to blend perfectly into their surroundings. In cases like this many operators elect to wear a Ghillie Suit. If Special Operations use Ghillie Suits for ultimate concealment in order to protect their life then Hunters and Paintball enthusiast are definitely going to experience success with these suits. Ghillie Suits are gaining much more popularity for the recreational user mainly because they are fun and they work. Most of our suits come with different color options to best match your particular environment. Most suits also have a netting where you are able to attach local vegetetation for even better concealment. This is recommended for optimum performance. We also carry patches that allow you to attatch vegation to your existing camouflage clothing.

Can You make your own Ghillie Suit?
You can attempt to make a Ghillie Suit on your own but you will still have to buy many supplies to get started. It will take many hours to complete and you are not guaranteed a good outcome. Most serious Snipers actually do make their own suits... But they are very knowledgable of the process and willing to put in lots of time to do so. As a recreational user your best bet is probably to start out with a pre-made Ghillie Suit. This saves you the time and the hassle. If you are set on making your own Ghillie Suit we have kits to help you out. You will save money but these kits will take anywhere from 5 to 10 hours to complete. These kits come with all the materials and exact instructions on how to make our pre-made "Tracker" or Poncho Ghillie suits. You have the option to order your own custom color combination or order the combinations that make up our Popular patterns.

Ghillie suits can be constructed in many different ways. Some military services make them of rough burlap (Hessian) flaps attached to a net poncho. US Army Ghillie suits are often built using a pilot's flightsuit, battle dress uniform (BDU), or some other one-piece coverall as the base. Dental floss or fish line is used to sew each knot of fishnet to the fabric, in the areas to be camouflaged. A drop of glue is applied to each knot for strength. The desired jute is applied to the netting by tying groups of 3 to 4 strands of a color to the netting with simple knots, skipping sections to be filled in with other colors. Today synthetic materials are becoming more and more popular for Ghillie Suits. They are lighter, more breathable, rot resistant and they are usually not as flamable as jute or burlap. We have a new synthetic ghillie suit that is very popular and is preferred by alot of our customers.

Are Ghillie Suits Dangerous?
Although an excellent form of camouflage, the suits do have some disadvantages. First, they can be heavy ( 2-9lbs), they require some maintenance and can be a fire hazard. Generally, as a rule, ghillies are mainly used in cooler forest locals where there is less risk of the sniper or scout suffering from too much heat. Many of our suits use material like, jute, that can be flammable. These suits have spray-on fire retardant already applied and come with extra fire-retardant. It is recommended that you not smoke while wearing these suits.  We have several non-flamable synthetic GhillieSuits now available, so if this is a concern consider that option.

All of our wearable jute and burlap products are sprayed with a Fire-retardant. All Kits come with one lb. of a Dry fire-retardant that the customer mixes with water, and applies to his/her suit when finished. Follow the directions on the bag of fire-retardant. In addition, We recommend Dry cleaning only. This is because if you wash your suit, the fire-retardant will be washed off, and therefore needs to be reapplied.

Another concern for Hunters when wearing this suit is being mistaken for an animal or for Big Foot!! Although I have never heard of a Hunter mistaken for an animal because he was wearing this suit and shot at, it is quite possible. After the Dick Cheney incident we were all reminded that hunting accidents can easily happen to anyone. Some states require hunters to wear bright orange colors. Please abide by your states hunting laws.

Are Certain Ghillie Suits Better for certain types of Hunting?
Absolutely. Each type of hunting is different.  The choice of your suit depends on what type of Mobility you need. The Paintball Ghillie suit is made to fit over your head gear, but this suit only covers the upper half of your body. How Long does Shipping and Handling Take?
Processing orders and Handling takes 1-3 business days and shipping takes 3-9 business days. After placing an order with us please allow 5-12 business days to receive it.
